African Australians are contributing richly to Australia’s music industry
Increasing numbers of people from all parts of Africa have made Australia their home in the last thirty years. Australian immigration has granted permanent visas and awarded Australian citizenship to current Australian residents from South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Liberia, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, The Congo, Somalia and a few other African countries.
Census – Australian Bureau of Statistics had reported in 2016 that nearly 400,000 Australian residents were born in Africa and the number has increased since.
African migrants and refugees are enriching communities across Australia in all areas of life. Music and entertainment are some of the Australian multicultural life areas the contribution is being noticed.
African Music Awards (AMA) Australia is an annual African music awards show and record chart, created by Jay Baba in 2016 for African Find TV (AFTV) Australia to present the highest recognition and honour given to African music artists in Australia and the international African artists who have toured Australia.
